What Type of Car Insurance is Mandatory By-Law in Alberta, Canada?
Hi, I'm Kristie your Western Direct Insurance Care Specialist. Today I'm here to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about car insurance. One of the most popular questions we have is "What type of insurance do you have to have by law?" To drive a vehicle, you must have the following minimum insurance coverages:Third Party Liability. This coverage protects you if you're involved in an accident and you damage someone's property, or if you injure or kill somebody. By provincial law, you must carry at least $200,000 in Third Party Liability damages. But most people opt out to carry $1 million, or $2 million worth. The second mandatory coverage is Accident Benefits. This coverage protects you if you or someone in your family is injured or killed in an automobile accident, whether it's your fault or not.
This coverage includes supplementary payments for medical, rehabilitation, attending care, non-earner and income replacement benefits.
