Fun Health Insurance Explained With The YouToons

Fun Health Insurance Explained With The YouToons

Millions of us now have health insurance many things in life, your health insurance can often be confusing and complicated. Whether you've been insured for years or you're new to the game, understanding your policy is important to your health...and your wallet. First things first, you have to pay your premium every month or your insurance could get cancelled - kind of like your cable subscription.

You can also think of it like a shared health care piggy bank -- we all chip in each month, even if we're healthy, so the money is there when we need it. If you get insurance at work, your employer probably pays most of your premium and the rest comes out of your paycheck automatically. If you have Medicaid, you most likely don't have to pay any premium at all -- the federal government and your state take care of that. If you're insured through a new health insurance marketplace, depending on your income, you may be eligible for a tax credit that pays a portion of your premium. Once you have that shiny new insurance card, you'll want to try really hard to keep it in your wallet!

To better your odds at staying healthy, be sure to take advantage of the free preventive services that all new insurance plans provide. But of course...stuff happens. And that's when insurance really comes in handy. Now, having insurance helps a lot, but it doesn't mean all your health care is going to be free. There are lots of details about your insurance plan that affect how much you pay when you get sick or injured. If you have Medicaid, a lot of these services could very well be free. Otherwise, you'll likely have to pay something when you go to the doctor or fill a prescription. This is called a copay when it's a specific dollar amount -- like $25 per visit...or coinsurance if it's a percentage of the bill. There's also the deductible -- that's how much comes out of your own pocket before your insurance starts paying. Depending on your plan, you might have a deductible for all your care, or it might only apply to some types of care, like hospital stays and prescriptions.

So read your plan material, because it can run into the thousands of dollars! Another important part of your plan is the out of pocket maximum. This is the most you'll ever have to pay in any one year. At least for the benefits your plan covers. Your insurer will pay 100% of anything beyond the maximum for the rest of the year. It can be just as confusing dealing with prescriptions! Your plan has a list of drugs it will pay for, called a formulary, but the prices vary. Check with your doctor or pharmacist, because a generic drug might fix you up the same as a brand name drug, but the price difference could be huge. So, those are the costs typically involved, but remember that they'll be affected by your insurance plan's provider network.

This is a list of doctors and hospitals that are connected to your plan. Insurance companies negotiate discounts with these providers. Stay in-network, and the discounts get passed to you. Go out of network, and you could end up paying full price. And remember that out-of-pocket limit? It won't work if you go out of network! In some plans -- like HMOs or EPOs -- your insurance would pay nothing if you go out-of-network.  In other plans -- like PPOs -- your insurance will cover you no matter where you go, but you'll pay a lot more if you go out of network. Also, if you want to visit a specialist - like an orthopedist - some plans require a referral from your primary care doctor. Sound easy enough? Well, sometimes staying in-network can be tricky!

In a hospital, it's possible that your surgeon could be in-network, while your anesthesiologist is not. Don't be afraid to negotiate with your provider or file an appeal with your insurer. So as you can see, there's a lot to think about when you choose an insurance plan each year. Some plans may have low premiums, but fewer doctors or hospitals and high deductibles. There are tradeoffs, and understanding and choosing among plans isn't always easy. Remember, if you have questions call your health plan and ask, or check with your hospital or doctor. If you still have questions, your state insurance department or Consumer Assistance Program can help.

Life Online Insurance Buying Tips - Why do you need a Health Insurance Plan

Life Online Insurance Buying Tips - Why do you need a Health Insurance Plan

We always wished that life should be like a smooth highway No bumps or pot holes to slow us down. But all we need is this tool kit and an extra tyre ready in the boot. Don't we, just in case. But somehow when it comes to our health which is so precious Why is it that we take it so easy? Like this friend of mine who came back from a vacation with a bad infection.  Ten days in the hospital, a huge bill and out of work for a month. Bank balance gone down no income to make the matter worse. If only he had extra tyre ready in his boot.

A small premium can save you and your family a lot of trouble and financial problems. So please do get a good health plan. These plans pay you when you're unwell or hospitalized depending on the type of policy you have. So you do not need to borrow from someone or empty your bank account. And unlike some other medical plans you get a lump sum amount irrespective of how much your hospital bills are. If you plan well you can also get money to compensate for your regular income you may lose when you are unwell and let's not forget about the 35,000 rupees tax benefits that you can get with these plans. We all keep hearing that his health is wealth. Don't we. But with some smart planning, bad health may not always be bad for your wealth.

Health Insurance Choices for Families

Health Insurance Choices for Families

I've been married for almost 15 years to Kelton. He's a designer, an architect. And then we have one daughter, Gwendolyn and she's almost 8 years old. The current piece I'm working on right now is composed of mainly steel and there's a component that's in the lake series of buoys and water lilies. So it's a pretty large piece, it's probably about, in total about 40 - 50 feet long.

Starting at age 27, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Went through treatments to get me through that. Since then really I've been in great health up until 5 years ago when I had a heart attack. I was age 39. If Kelton wouldn't have had health insurance whenever he was first diagnosed, it would have bankrupted him. We were just dating at the time, but those bill as they came in, looking at a quarter of a million dollars every time he was in the hospital. Thankfully he had at least limited health insurance. Ever since then our family has made it a top priority to be sure that we had the best health insurance that we can provide. I think health insurance is absolutely crucial.

In fact our friends are used to us preaching about how they must have health insurance and our family knows all too well what can happen if you don't. It's expensive to have health insurance, but it is not nearly as expensive as it would be if we didn't have it. One of my least favorite things to do is to shop for health insurance. We have a broker who's been helpful in that way but it is still incredibly complicated. And I feel like I'm a bright gal, I can usually figure things out but there's just no apples to apples comparison.

Our family is very hopeful that Connect for Health Colorado is going to be able to offer not only us but myriad people who not ever had health insurance or were not happy with their health insurance be able to have an opportunity to get good affordable care. It sounds like what we need in terms of being able to choose our health insurance. To be sure that we can have the physicians that we want to work with especially given my history. That's important. I want to be sure that our family is always covered.

New York Health Insurance Explained

New York Health Insurance Explained

Millions of us now have health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, or what some people call Obamacare. But like many things in life, your health insurance can often be confusing and complicated. Health Insurance for your Pet Protection

Health Insurance for your Pet Protection

Well, this is no surprise. Pet people are happier people. How much happier? Well, according to Psychology Today, a lot happier. Studies show pet parents have greater self-esteem, are less lonely, even more physically fit. Love you, Hero! That's my buddy. That is until your beloved pet gets sick and you have to deal with the emotional and financial stress of life-saving veterinary care. And Dr. Craig Galbraith, Chief Veterinary Advisor with Pethealth and 24PetWatch is here to help along with our pet guest, Champagne. Welcome.

Thank you for having us. She's being such a good girl. She's being awesome today. You're a beauty, yes. So, tell me Dr. Craig, how do you really deal with thinking about the well-being of your pet and also your pocketbook? Yeah, the biggest way is thinking about purchasing pet insurance. Absolutely. And what are some of the misconceptions people really have about pet insurance? Well, there's a few. The biggest is that people think that pre-existing conditions are covered.

And what that means is pre-existing condition is something that your pets been symptomatic for, diagnosed with, or treated for before you got the pet insurance. So, it's always best to insure as soon as possible to avoid having pre-existing conditions that aren't covered. The other one is that people don't think that they need pet insurance.

Right. So many. You don't know you need it until you really need it. So, people think that if they just take what they would pay in pet insurance premiums and set that aside every month that they can just rely on that to cover their veterinary bills. Right.

The problem with that is you don't know when these things are going to come up. So, if you've only been saving for four or five months, you may not have enough to cover that illness or accident that just occurred. And if you need ongoing treatment for that, then you've already used up your savings and you may actually have to dip into things and some of your other household bills may start to suffer as well. And the last thing is, Champagne here, she's a bit older. She's six. And people feel that if their pet is a bit on the older side that they can't get pet insurance, and that it is only for puppies and kittens. And that's just not the case. Good to know.

You can insure a pet at any age, the earlier the better, as always. And even if they do have pre-existing conditions, if they are older, there's always room for pet insurance because you never know. Accidents can always happen.

You've certainly had people come to you as a veterinarian with a tragic situation, a very very sick dog, and then you have to talk to them about medical cost. And that can be a really challenging situation, I'm sure. Absolutely. As a veterinarian, when you're dealing with uninsured pets, the conversation can be mostly about the finances which can be very difficult. I mean, when pets are sick, it's an emotional experience, a very stressful experience. But when you have pet insurance, the whole experience is transformed. It's not "What can I afford?", it's "What's best for my pet?", and it just changes everything for everybody. Of course. You're not put in that position of making a financial decision about your pet. You can actually... What are my options? What are my options? So, how do we determine which pet insurance policy is right for me or for our viewers.

And that's probably the biggest challenge with pet insurance. The one thing I can tell people is make sure you're comfortable asking lots of questions, asking what does the coverage actually look like, and for that coverage can I make changes to my co-payment, my deductible, so that I can get my premium down to where it can fit into my budget?

Right. You know, there's accident insurance, accident-only, accident and illness coverage. So, make sure you know what the policy looks like. Are there optional types of coverages available like wellness? Things like vaccines, microchips? That was what I was saying. What else can we do to protect our pet? I mean, I haven't done the microchip. That's terrible. I should go do it.

Yeah, for those who have pets already or are thinking about adopting a new pet, absolutely get the microchip. That's one of the best ways that we can keep those pets with us in our families healthier longer. So, where should folks go to find their new family member like Champagne? Well, the first place they should go is Petango.com. Pethealth has one of North America's largest online pet adoption websites.

Wonderful! I love the name. Petango. I can remember that. You go there and what happens when you go there? Well, you can just basically pick based on your area. So, you can set a radius for your search, what kind of pet you're looking for, or you can even set it to ask you lifestyle questions about yourself to help you choose what pet's best for you. And then they show you what's available in your area? Absolutely. It gives you the contact information for that shelter. So, you just reach out to them and then you make that connection. Oh my gosh. So last year, we adopted out over a million animals through our shelter partners. Wow! I don't know if I want to give my daughter this website site yet. (laughter).

Yeah, it can be addictive. Yeah, I know. Well we hope that we've inspired you to go out and adopt one of these beauties like Champagne. Millions of people have. All you have to do, as we just said, is go to Petango.com and you can find adorable adoptable pets in your area. Thank you so much for coming in. Thanks for having us. She is just, you've only met like two days, right? Yeah, and she's locally here from the Florida Humane Society.

Requirements for Individuals under Health Reform

Requirements for Individuals under Health Reform

As of 2014, federal health reform brought new requirements to health insurance. One of the biggest changes included a requirement that all Americans contribute to the cost of health care. Health Reform, also known as the Affordable Care Act... ...has an Individual Responsibility Requirement that requires every member of your Household to have Minimum Essential Coverage whether you get it through your employer, on the Health Insurance... ...Marketplace, through private major medical health insurance purchased from a health insurance company off the marketplace, or a form of coverage provided by the government. If you choose not to carry insurance, you have two options. Apply for - and receive - an exemption, or make an individual responsibility payment when you file your federal income tax return. Often referred to as a tax penalty. Each of these options applies to everyone in your household.

So if your children and other dependents aren’t insured, you could end up paying a penalty for each dependent every year. The plans you’ll find on the Health Insurance Marketplace will eliminate the penalty. If you don’t have health insurance and don’t want to pay the individual responsibility payment, you may qualify for an exception, this is called an exemption. The exemptions include... ...Belonging to a religious sect that’s recognized as conscientiously opposed to accepting insurance benefits, belonging to a federally recognized Indian tribe, if your premiums are over 8% of your yearly household income...not being lawfully present in the United States, having an income below the income tax filing requirement... ...the months one is a member of a health care sharing ministry, the months one went  without insurance for less than three consecutive months, those months spent in jail or prison, any months that a hardship would keep you from obtaining coverage. Exemption forms are available online at the Health Insurance Marketplace and/or the IRS.

Without exemptions or insurance, you’ll have an individual responsibility payment to pay each year. The payment will be either a set percentage of your income... ... or a flat fee that is charged per member of a family... ...up to a total of $285 for your 2014 taxes.
You will be charged whichever amount is higher. Remember that ... the amount of the payment increases every year for both the percentage and the flat fee. And if you had Minimum Essential Coverage for at least one day during a month... ...that entire month is considered fully covered. One more thing: Your annual individual responsibility payment does not give you coverage. To stop making individual responsibility payments, you must either enroll in a minimum essential health coverage plan or receive an exemption from paying.

Health Insurance Exchanges

Health Insurance Exchanges

So, what is a health insurance exchange anyway? Well, think of it as a large, online marketplace that gives individuals and small businesses access to insurance options. Ok, sounds good. How does it work? I'm glad you asked. It allows uninsured individuals to compare and shop for quality and affordable health plans and insurers a way to compete for individual customers.

So exchanges give you access to a range of plans whether you are a student, you run a local bakery, or are a stay-at-home dad. Gotcha, but what does it mean for me? Right now, if you were to shop for insurance you'd be on your own, and it can get pretty complicated. Soon, most of us will be required by law to purchase health insurance, including you, and exchanges will offer a more streamlined way for millions of Americans to compare and select insurance.

Best Health & Life Insurance Leads

Best Health & Life Insurance Leads

Ray Searan and I am a licensed insurance agent and a district sales manager with HealthsMarkets insurance agency. My territory covers all of coastal South Carolina and coastal Georgia. I've really enjoyed working with Infofree since I've been with them I've been with them about, I think about 4 or 5 months now they've really been a great asset and have been able to help me grow my business and also have been able to help my team grow their business as well.

Infofree has been able to tell me and give me the information that I need so that I understand who the decision maker is and the company that I want to be talking to and actually allows me to get through gatekeepers a little bit quicker actually helps me to actually get in front of someone who can make a decision in regards to the insurance benefits for small business owners. Using other companies, the thing that was hard for us to be able to do is to actually be able to narrow down the companies that we wanted to speak to.

One of our targets is small businesses with fewer than 50 employees and it was sometimes hard to be able to tell what the employees size with other databases and with other lists. With Infofree I'm able to actually filter out the company and the business owner based on the number of employees that they have. I can also target businesses based on their revenue- I can target businesses based on who has a website and who doesn't. There's just so many ways I can actually customize in Infofree and really be able to drill down and get a list of 10 people that I need to target as compared to 1000 and it really helps me get specific, save me a lot of time and a lot of energy that way I can focus less on marketing and lead generation and more on actual making sales happen.
