New Dog Owners Thankful for Pet Insurance
She'd seen a flock of pigeons and ran at it and scared it and went through kind of a hole in a fence, in seconds she was gone. It all happened so quick, one minute she was there and the next she wasn't. When we first heard about the pet insurance trial, she said, "Oh, by the way, if you guys want to do this it's free at the moment." She explained to us what it was.By the time we got downstairs it was maybe a minute later and found her there on the ground. I just panicked; I didn't know what to do. Once they'd kind of gotten her in and we both calmed down enough to talk to, one of the girls said, "Okay, for her emergency fee and her x-rays we are quoting you $3,000 to $3,500. We kind of signed the paper saying, okay, yeah, that's manageable.
They called us back a couple of hours later and said we've done the x-rays and she's broken bones in both her shoulders, wrists, all over her arms. And we're now quoting you between 8 and 12 thousand dollars. On our way home we remembered we had Trupanion but we weren't sure if Trupanion was going to cover the bill upfront because we'd only had it activated for a week at the moment. If we hadn't had insurance, we wouldn't have been able to go through with it.
She had a little over 5 hours surgery in total. And she had casts and they pinned her bones both on the inside and then on the outside. Hi this is Lisa. How can I help you? O.K. Kerry, so what I'll do... They kind of did all the legwork for us. It was very seamless.
Based on car insurance or house insurance or anything else. You normally have to do everything when it comes to insurance, so we were--yeah, we were really surprised, actually. The specialist who operated on her was very surprised that she survived. It's really important to us to have her still. We weren't expecting her to fall 30 feet chasing a pigeon, which she still does. Funny enough, you'd think that she'd be turned off birds for life.
